A food scanner for high blood pressure
Some of us watch sodium. Velrae Method reads every label through the lens of your body — so if you have high blood pressure, the grade is for you, not for everyone.
Free to start — 7 days or 25 scans, no card.
What it checks for high blood pressure
- Sodium per servingRead off the label and compared with the 2,300 mg Daily Value. At 5% of the Daily Value or less, the salt isn’t counted against it. At 20% or more, the grade is held at C or below for you.“High in sodium: 690 mg per serving (30% of the daily value). That holds the grade at C or below for you.” — an example of the line you see
- The ingredients that matter for blood pressureDeli meats, soda, miso, fish sauce, Worcestershire, imitation crab and salty cheeses like cotija and pecorino are flagged. Beer, wine and spirits are marked Caution.
- Restaurant dishes tooType or speak a dish, or snap the menu page, and get a grade for the dish. The app tells you plainly that a dish can vary by about 30%, especially sodium and oils.
- Supplements, with a note to check firstVitamins and supplements get the facts instead of a grade. A potassium supplement carries a note to check with your doctor if you take blood-pressure medicine.

After the scan, it keeps your journal
- Your day’s sodium, added upLog what you eat and the Day Overview adds up your sodium against 2,300 mg — or the American Heart Association’s 1,500 mg, in one tap — with the foods most of it came from.
- Your blood pressure at homeBlood pressure, weight and resting pulse sit beside what you ate, and the morning check-in adds a Headache row.
- A visit summary to hand across the deskYour home blood pressure averages, your sodium per day against the guideline, and the top sources of the sodium you logged. Descriptive, not a verdict: the doctor remains the interpreter.

High blood pressure, and something else?
- Pick everything that appliesMost people have more than one thing to watch. Add IBS, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease or high cholesterol, and every scan is graded for all of them at once. How that works →
Questions
Is there an app that scans food for high blood pressure?
Yes. Velrae Method is a food scanner that grades each label for high blood pressure (hypertension), using the sodium per serving and the ingredients, and for any other condition you pick. It’s on the App Store and Google Play.
Does it count sodium?
Yes. It reads the sodium per serving off the label and compares it with the 2,300 mg Daily Value. When you log what you eat, it adds up your day’s sodium against 2,300 mg, or 1,500 mg if you choose that target.
Does it work with the DASH diet?
Yes. Pick DASH Diet under Diets I follow. It flags the ingredients DASH asks you to limit, such as high-fructose corn syrup and salty cheeses, alongside high blood pressure.
Is it medical advice?
No. Velrae is a journal, not a diagnosis, and not a replacement for your doctor. It reads labels against what you told it to watch, so you can walk in with three weeks of evidence instead of a guess.
What does it cost?
Free to start: 7 days or 25 scans, no card. Then $29.99 a year or $59.99 lifetime.
