Your data, your phone

Your data, your phone.

In plain English, in 90 seconds. Same facts a lawyer would write — just fewer words.

0health data points we store on a server

Your scans, conditions, symptoms, patterns, profiles, diary, doctor PDFs — all stay on your phone. We have no copy.

Everything substantive lives on your phone

Velrae stores all the data that matters in your device’s local storage. None of it is sent to any server we control. You can delete all of it any time with Settings → Wipe all data. We have no way to access it. We have no way to recover it if you wipe it.

What goes to a server, exactly

1. Anonymous barcode lookups → public product databases. When you scan a UPC that hasn’t been resolved yet, we send the UPC to public product databases to get back the product name and ingredient list. The request contains the UPC and nothing else. No identifying information.
2. Anonymous community contributions → Velrae’s community database. When you scan a previously unknown product, the app may anonymously contribute the resolved record — UPC, product name, ingredient list — to a community database we maintain. The contribution carries no information about you. Toggle off in Settings → Privacy.
3. Smart Scan → our partner service. When the app uses Cloud label reading (cloud label reading via a our reader) for difficult labels, the photo of the label is sent to our partner service’s API for text extraction. No storage. No PII linked. Per our partner service’s API policy.
4. Your purchase → Stripe and our license backend. Stripe gets your payment info and email. Our license backend (Supabase) gets your first name, the Stripe session ID, your email (for recovery), and an anonymous device identifier per activated device (to enforce the 3-device limit).

That’s it. Four data flows. Nothing else crosses the wire.

What we don’t do

  • No account system. No Velrae login, no Velrae password, no Velrae user database.
  • No tracking across the web. No Meta Pixel. No Google Analytics. No tracking pixels on the marketing site.
  • No ad-network retargeting.
  • No selling of any data. Not to advertisers. Not to data brokers. Not to insurers. Not to anyone, ever.
  • No HIPAA claims. We are not a HIPAA-covered entity. We don’t pretend to be. The actual posture (your data on your phone, nothing crosses to us) is stronger than what most HIPAA-covered apps offer.

How to delete everything

On your device: Settings → Wipe all data.
From our license backend: Email velraemethod@gmail.com. We delete your license record within 30 days.
From Stripe: Stripe is required by law to retain payment records. Contact Stripe directly via their privacy form.

What happens when you scan a label

You point your phone at the label. Velrae sends the picture to a partner service that reads the words on it — that’s their only job, and they don’t keep the photo or know who you are. The words come back. Then your phone takes over: it grades each ingredient against the conditions and goals on your profile.

Your symptoms, your diary, your conditions, your name — none of that goes anywhere. It lives on your phone.

Why we read the label, instead of looking it up

Most scanners check a database. If your product isn’t in the database, you get nothing. If the manufacturer quietly changed the recipe last month, you get last year’s answer.

Velrae works the other way. We read what’s actually in your hand — the label, the ingredient list, the nutrition panel. Then we tell you what each ingredient means for your body, your conditions, your week.

That’s why we can grade things other apps can’t. A brand-new product. A generic-brand version of a name-brand item. A farmer’s-market jar with no barcode. A recipe you wrote yourself. If the words are on the box, we can answer the only question that matters: is this right for my body?

And every scan you do makes the next person’s faster

Only the public-facing product information — what the label says and what’s in it — gets pooled so the next person who scans the same box gets an instant answer. Your health information, your check-ins, your diary, your conditions, your name: those never leave your phone. Ever.

The result is a scanner that gets sharper every week from real people reading real labels — instead of one that depends on a corporate database we don’t control.
